Arang and the Magistrate - Lee Jun Ki & Shin Min Ah Couple Poster

Arang and the Magistrate released an eye-catching couple poster of its main casts: Lee Jun Ki & Shin Min Ah today.

Shin Min Ah will be playing as Arang (Ghost) is floating on the air under a ray of light and looking up at the Heaven; while her co-star Lee Jun Ki will be playing as Magistrate Eun Oh extends his hands towards her and looking at her with faint eyes.

Arang and The Magistrate - The First Fascinating Teasers [Updated with longer teaser]

Even though the premiere date of Arang and the Magistrate has been pushed back to the 3rd week of August, I'm so happy that MBC released the first fascinating teaser of this fantasy sageuk drama yesterday.

A new Legend is born

It opens with Ghost Arang being chased by an unknown man, but then she fights back. Go Arang! I fall in love with her character already. And how cute is she!

The teaser also shows the flower boy Magistrate Eun Oh fighting or maybe defending himself?

Wow, how come they are already in bed together? Arang & the Magistrate? And Arang first initiates the kiss to this nervous flower boy. Will they kiss on their first meeting? (*curious)

The Magistrate, now what are you trying to do to Arang? Touching the most sensitive part of her body? He pulled his hands back and confidently (but sheepishly) said "this... it's not thatt" ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

Arang and the Magistrate will premiere on August 15, 2012.

The teaser mentions that this drama is Joseon Fantasy Romance Action Drama. And the teaser did show some comedic side of this drama. Fantasy, Romance, Mystery, Action, Comedy - Bring it on, baby! =)

A fascinating legend about Arang:

Arang (Korean folklore)

"Arang is a figure in the folklore of the Miryang area of Korea. According to the legend, she was the daughter of a magistrate (busa) of Miryang during the Joseon Dynasty. Her wicked nanny conspired to have the servant Baekga seize her at night and rape her; however, she resisted and Baekga stabbed her to death. Her father, thinking she had eloped with a stranger, resigned his position in shame. Thereafter, whenever a new magistrate was appointed Arang's corpse would appear; soon no-one would take the position. At last a bold man named Yi Sang-sa was appointed to the post, and he promised Arang's ghost that he would avenge her. He had Baekga seized and executed. Thereafter, her spirit ceased to trouble the town.

The Aranggak shrine, where Arang's spirit is venerated, still stands in Miryang, on the Yeongnamnu bluff overlooking the Miryang River. Traditionally, rites were held in her honor on the 16th day of the 4th month of the Chinese calendar."

Faith 신의 - Gosa Ceremony / Prayer Ceremony

The casts & crew of Faith held their prayer ceremony on July 10, 2012 and I also pray with them that this drama will be a very successful one.

I'm so excited for Faith. To be honest, this is my #1 anticipated drama of the year (okay, Arang and the Magistrate is also included in my "anticipated drama of the year" list). Lee Min Ho & Lee Jun Ki (plus cutie Shin Min Ah & Yoo Seung Ho) weekly overload.

Even though I have to wait a bit longer since the premiere dates of both dramas will fall on my 2 weeks holiday break; but it's okay; I can wait (yes I can hahaha). But I'll take a peak and definitely read all recaps =)

I'm very glad that these two dramas won't go head-to-head (Faith will be aired in Monday - Tuesday while Arang and the Magistrate will take up the Wednesday - Thursday slot). Lee Jun Ki was the top contender as Choi Young, but unfortunately he has to drop out from this drama because of army duty. 3 years later, Lee Min Ho was finally cast as Choi Young. I love Lee Min Ho; so no complaint here :D Kim Hee Sun was cast in 2009 and she patiently waited to play in this drama as Yoo Eun Soo.

Faith has been in production for 3 years and produced, directed & written by the same PD & scriptwriter who did Sandglass & The Legend.

Looking at the first trailer released yesterday (screencap below), I know we're in for a huge treat. Gorgeous cinematography, brilliant script, stunning background music, and great acting.

Arang and the Magistrate Premiere Date is postponed

Due to London Olympic 2012 which will be held from July, 27 to August 12, 2012, MBC has announced on July 10, 2012 that the first episode of Arang and the Magistrate has been pushed back to August 15, 2012.

The premiere of Arang and the Magistrate staring Lee Jun Kin & Shin Min Ah originally will be aired on July 25, 2012 (after I Do I Do finishes on July 19, 2012) . So it means the premiere has been postponed by 2 weeks.

To be honest, I'm a bit disappointed because I'm looking forward to this drama. And because of the delay, I won't be able to watch the first four episodes because I'll be away on a holiday. >.<

But setting my selfishness aside, I'm glad that the production crew & the cast have two additional weeks; so can expect more stellar performance & stunning editing as well as cinematography.

Arang and the Magistrates - BTS Pictures & Stills of Lee Jun Ki and Shin Min Ah

Is it July 25 yet? =)

I'm over the moon looking at the BTS Pictures and Character Stills of handsome Lee Jun Ki who will be playing as a magistrate and Shin Min Ah who is so gorgeous as a Ghost named Arang.

Lee Jun Ki has uploaded few character stills on his official twitter account and I believe he will have a spectacular on-screen chemistry with Shin Min Ah. Not going to predict the ending of this fantasy melo drama, because I'm scared to even think about it. A love story between a magistrate and a ghost? Only a miracle can turn the ending into a happy ending.

Synopsis

The drama riffs on the famous tale of a young woman named Arang who was killed, who returned as a ghost to plead with magistrates to bring justice to the evildoers, played in the series by Shin Mina. Though there are definite fusion-mystery-ghost story vibes, there also seems to be a current of humor that’ll run through it.

Arang, as a plucky, bright personality, in a departure from the typical ghost character. But I don’t expect this kind of plucky to hew to the usual heroine types, who are often Candys (poor but hardworking and optimistic): “She’s cynical and coarse and reckless, and strong-headed to boot, but not in a hateful way; she’s a lovable character. She doesn’t remember who she was in her life, and struggles to get by in this world, desperately wanting to know the reason for her death.” Ah, so the plot just got a hair more interesting—the ghost doesn’t know why she’s hanging around, so it’s not strictly revenge she wants, but the truth.
